Park Back To Winning Ways

Greenwood Park bounced back from a disappointing defeat to Langleybury III’s as they beat Flitwick III’s by 15 runs.

The win keeps Park one point ahead of title rivals Potten End with just four games to go.

Shafaat Hussain hit a disciplined 58 and Arslan Khan took a fantastic 5-18 from ten as the visitors claimed a narrow away victory.

Having been put into bat Greenwood lost early wickets and found themselves 18-3 after 8.5 overs.

But a resolute 70 run partnership between Hussain and Sam Nash got their side back into contention.

Hussain scored his first league 50 of the year, with Nash contributing a valuable 24, before the pair were both out caught.

Despite the rebuild Park lost another couple of wickets and were looking well short of a par score at 110-7.

But an eighth wicket stand from Ajmal Hussain (31) and Troy Petchey (9) helped their team to a respectable 159-10 in 40.5 overs.

In response, Flitwick got off to a solid start and at the 20 over mark were 58-1.

Yet from there, Park’s attack – particularly Khan and S. Hussain – swung the momentum towards their team.

The former finished with his best figures for the club, 5-18, and Hussain collected a crucial 2-18.

A ten over spell from the 21stover resulted in Greenwood taking 3-9, as the Chiswell Green based outfit bowled an incredible 16 maidens in the innings.

Vishal Pujari and Ajmal Hussain also produced strong spells, conceding a combined 52 runs from 20 overs, as Park once again demonstrated how dominant their bowling unit can be.

Such was the strength of the quicks that Flitwick fell 15 runs short of their target as Park picked up a vital 30 points.
