Greenwood Smash Potten End And Grab Top Spot

Greenwood Park obliterated title rivals Potten End by seven wickets to go top of Division Eight A.

The win means Park are 21-points clear with six league games to go.

Vinil Palai stole the show with the ball – after the hosts chose to bat – taking an exceptional 5-11 from ten as he destroyed the opposition middle order.

The right-arm quick took the crucial wicket of Azeem Akhtar for just five, on an unpredictable pitch, in a sensational spell.

Troy Petchey was also key with ball in hand, finishing with figures of 2-25 from ten as he and Ajmal Hussain (1-25) performed superbly in the opening 20 overs.

Arslan Khan contributed 2-12 from 16 balls as the visitors bowled out their opposition for a well below par 115 in 40.2 overs.

Despite chasing a low total the pressure was on Park, with top spot looming, but an opening partnership of 77 from Ed Gray (24) and Vishal Pujari (42) put their side in full control.

There was a slight wobble for Greenwood as they lost three wickets for only 20 runs but Rakib Ali (23*) and Kent (8*) saw Greenwood home in 25 overs, the latter clattering four through the covers to seal a vital 30 points.
