Greenwood Get Maximum Points

Greenwood Park secured back-to-back victories as they cruised to an eight-wicket win at Harpenden IV’s.

It was a tribute to both sides that there could be a result despite the rain and it was the visitors who capitalised, making it two wins from two.

There was also the added bonus that no other fixture could be completed in Division Eight A – due to the weather – so Park now hold an early 20 point lead at the top of the table.

For the second week in a row it was Greenwood’s bowling attack that led them to victory.

Debuting opening bowler Vinil Palai took a highly impressive 3-19 from eight overs, including four maidens.

He was supported excellently by Ajmal Hussain, who claimed one wicket and conceded just 16 runs from his ten overs.

Troy Petchey and Ali Sherazi then jumped in on the action, as the pair continued asserting Park’s dominance.

Petchey took 3-25 off seven and Sherazi finished with 2-9 from five, with only Jack Killen (46*) offering any kind of resistance for the hosts.

Shafaat Hussain picked up the last wicket of the innings as Greenwood bowled out their opposition for just 83, with only five of Harpenden’s batsmen troubling the scorers.

With the weather still around Park got off to a strong start – Ed Gray and Yasir Raja putting on 59 for the first wicket.

With such a small total to chase the result was never really in doubt and although Raja (29) and Arslan Khan (18) both were out caught, Greenwood still eased their way to victory.

It was left to Gray (32*) to hit the winning runs as his side stormed to the summit of the division.

Next week Greenwood host Potten End it what could be already be a crucial game come the end of the season.
